Increasing comms timeouts

If you experience intermittent communications timeouts or are connecting to a drive via a higher latency connection (e.g. to a remote site using a VPN or over an Ethernet-over-EtherCAT EoE network) then you may find that extending the comms timeouts can help.

Before you do this, please check that if you are using a USB to RS485 adapter that you have configured the latency setting appropriately.

Follow the steps below to extend the timeouts:

1. Click on Connection Settings on the dashboard/ribbon:
   
    
2. Click on the Timeouts button:
   
    
3. Enter in the number of milliseconds to extend the timeouts by:
   

Note that this is a general application setting so will apply to all drives and projects.
